Overcoming Fear with Hypnotherapy

Did you know that we are only actually born with 2 fears; the fear of falling and the fear of loud sounds. Yet there are hundreds of millions of phobias and fears that exist now. We can literally be scared of anything though obviously some of the most popular or well-documented fears are a fear of spiders, flying, heights and of course the dark.

Hypnotherapy is often used as treatment for anxiety and depression amongst other things but can also be an amazing tool for use against fears and phobias. This wonderful treatment method is now supported and recommended even by the NHS.  It is fast becoming a go to form of treatment for many.

Our fears often make no sense, we are fully aware that the tiny spider in front of us can’t really hurt us or how safe flying actually is compared to even driving in a car but nevertheless we can get true anxiety to the point of feeling almost paralysed by fear when faced with these situations.

Often it can be confusing why we have these fears and phobias and they might have developed for a few reasons:

  • We had a bad experience or trauma in the past.
  • The fear has been learned from someone close to us and has been exaggerated over the years
  • There’s even evidence that our genes may play a part

Dealing with Fears

It is said that more than 10% of the world’s population will experience a simple phobia at some point in their lives and that is not even the extreme phobias. As I said previously, there is literally nothing we cannot develop anxiety or phobias about.

However, that doesn’t mean that you need to be stuck with that fear forever. Hypnotherapy is considered an extremely effective cure for these problems as it provides the exact opposite of anxiety caused by fear – deep relaxation.

At the same time as calming and relaxing us, it teaches the mind a different way of responding to what we are afraid of, be it an object or a situation. Basically, we are reprogramming our brains to not be afraid or be less afraid of that which instils us with fear.

Usually fears and phobias can be successfully treated in just a few sessions.

What Happens When You’re Hypnotised?

There are many different methods of hypnotherapy and a good hypnotherapist will always discuss these with you to ensure you’re comfortable and happy to proceed.

After this initial chat, the Hypnotherapist will usually;

  • Safely and gently lead you into a deeply relaxed state
  • Use professional and approved methods to help you achieve your goals.
  • Then gradually bring you out of the Hypnotic state.

There is a misconception that you will lose all self-control or be tricked by Hypnotherapists into doing actions you don’t wish to do. This is not true – these types of things are reserved for the magic shows and magicians. With a trained Hypnotherapist you will always be in control and aware of your surroundings.

Joy offers Hypnotherapy as a treatment and would be happy to chat to you about your fears to see if she can help.  Please give her a call on 07919 051956.
